kerala - A land of Hippocrates

Kerala - A land of Hippocrates

Have you ever thought about the double standards of keralites ? Well you have to become a malayalee to know what I meant. Recently I saw the latest movie from fast and furious franchise. We all know how sad for the fans to see Paul Walker in his last film. But what I found interesting is the reception of that movie by mallu's.

Years ago back in kerala along with my some other friends I watched Sagar Alias Jacky, this movie lacks a good plot but was perfect in technical aspect, I would say one of the stylish movie. But my friends did not accepted many of the fight scenes because of the logic behind it. I have seen many allegations like this against another actor - prithviraj : many of his old movie had fight sequences with out logic. I agreed with that view of the people that film should have an element like supernatural to show fight sequences with out any logic. That is the reason we always cheer for superman and batman, interestingly in India we have another Gotham state - Tamil Nadu. where we can find another superhero Rajnikant. He is above the script and viewers. what ever he does in a film is acceptable to the fans and particular viewers. I should say he made his career with a magic wand of style and power. He is the legend, legend became god for fans, but there are a bench of new actors trying to imitate the same style and action in their respective films. Like vijay , surya , ajith and vikram. The same malayalee viewers who cannot accept the logic of stunt scenes in malayalam films will clap for the illogical scenes of tamil and hindi superstars.Even in that case there are a bench of intellectual audience who say that it could never happen and mallus always remain as the best critical audience.

Apparently I had a discussion with one of my friend and he said that people like to cheer about the external factors more than the internal simplicity and this may be the reason every keralite finds it interesting to watch Vijay picking up a tyre of JCB or vikram fighting 50 men at a time. Even in this scenario there are another set of guys who follows hollywood, they always alleges and argue that the best films are always made in hollywood and others are just copycats. so tell me the logic of these hollywood fans ? when you watch AVATAR you need to know about the inner meaning along with the magic of visuals , like the world economic policy and poverty as per the imagination of those writers.  And there are some geniuses who create movies and we always end up in a question like in nolan movies ? Now we should compare those guys complain about the mallu superheros and tamil superheros with another category, the self proclaimed intellectuals of films. Those who spend their time to rate movies in imdb and make a critical view of each movie on their FB wall. It is very common these days to see a status like this kerala - watching FF7 @ sreekumar with X Y Z...feeling pwoli  vin diesel kalipppp..... I dont know what is the reason keralites consider this movie as the most appealing movie in recent times, apart from the tribute we can give to the lead actor Paul Walker, there is nothing to cheer about in that movie. the action sequences in that movie can be comparable with those comics in the balarama where you can make everything possible with the magic wand of mayavi or magic malu. Tell me how can it be possible for a car to jump from one building to another ? whom do you think having more eyesight , an eagle or  dwayne johnson ? Was vin diesel and co present during the time elixir was served ? after watching the whole film you could understand one thing that it is not possible to kill Don and co. Also they are using some special kind of cars which can land on the desired place with the help of parachutes, it is having high defensive system to elude from all kind of missiles. Even if the missile hit their cars, all passengers can safely land in highways with out injury just one micro second before the explosion. If you start to point out the loop holes in this movie you might get a value for infinity and possibly get a Nobel in mathematics and literature. Interestingly mallus find this movie interesting  with this much number of errors. may be there is a pride inside the mallus where they always need to say that the west is better than the east. people in kerala find joy in saying that they felt good after watching those EPIC scenes in the movie. In imdb people used to rate movies according to the standards, may be because of the sad demise of Mr. Walker people are giving high ratings to this movie. Or may be am so jealous  of this genre lovers. I have seen many people who hates the godfather movie and finds twilight as interesting. So may be am wrong in my perception.

Last but not least we know how keralites handle litter. They find space for rubbish in neighbor's courtyard, throw away empty bottles in road, always try to spit in footpaths and so on. To an extend we can blame government for not providing enough services in this sector like bins, waste treatment etc. I must say that it is a part our life style, in my childhood the first interesting activity I found in road was to place an empty 'mango fruity' cartoon on road and wait for a vehicle to run over it. There begins my part in ruining the environment by dumping litter on road. But how can I relate it with the Hippocratic malayalee ? when you move to some other place than india you will change that behavior. when I moved to England, I feel like am a narendra modi of UK doing swacch england campaign here.  Always walk toward bins to spit my chewing gums, never make a noise in public places (except in library) and show manners in queues. This manners is not the one inherited, this is not what I learned in my childhood, But this is an act a mallu can do everywhere on earth to show that you are one among the host nationalities or should I say - pambine thinnunna naatil chennal nadu kashnam thinnanam  (a proverb in malayalam)

I dont want to make this more complex by including politics in this note, just wait for the next assembly elections  and you can see how Hippocratic  are those malayalees. To stand against the anarchists like me they always stay together like a broom.

Roger federer and the ageless tennis

We call him the perfectionist, the greatest of all time, the maestro and swiss genius. But there is factor in roger federer which we haven't seen until recently, his ability to play the tennis with out dropping pace against the young guns when he gets  older.

I am a fan of this man from the year 2004 when he ruled all courts with his strong base line play and powerful forehand. Meanwhile tennis has produced other greats such as the king of clay and the greatest returner - Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Federer was unstoppable during 2004- 2007. he was getting better and better every year, suddenly one man with muscles came up and thrashed his dream of winning the career slam. Later his defeats to nadal extended to hardcourts. Eventhough he lost more matches to nadal during that period, he achieved Nadal couldn't at that time. After finishing four years as number 1 in world rankings Federer lost his throne to Nadal when he lost wimbledon final to the later. It was the match defined the years to come in men's tennis and it pushed federer to bring his best in next year. In the year 2009 Robin soderling defeated Rafael Nadal at paris which everyone still believes as the mission impossible and federer grabbed that opportunity to complete his career slam. In 2010 US open federer lost novak djokovic after having match point, then in the next year he lost to the same guy after winning first two sets. Federer's loss to novak and nadal initiated a debate over his decline in sports. John McEnroe said he was not going to regain the number one ranking again. Men's tennis became three dimensional after 2011 - federer with all time grandslam record . nadal chasing federer's record and novak not allowing nadal to accomplish his dreams.

Wimbledon is the place where Federer started to believe that anything is possible for him in tennis and his faith helped him to win seventh crown at wimbledon at the age of 31. He regained number one ranking from djokovic and proved everyone age is just a number for him. but in the next year he dropped to a ranking of 6, apparently Rafael Nadal continued to be unchallenged in clay courts.

Injuries are always a part of dedicated player , federer was no exception, but the back injury he got in 2013 pulled him  down in the rankings. He finished that year as world number 6. There were doubts in our mind that he could finish out of top 8 for the first time after a decade. But he made good efforts in season ending indoor tournaments. Next year we got a new grandslam champion - stanislas wawrinka or stan the man. He had beaten rafael nadal for the first time in his career to win the first slam. Federer became a shadow to his country man after his loss to stan at monte carlo. Meanwhile he hired one of the best volleyer Stefan Edberg as his coach. He made many changes in federer's game, primarily he changed his racket size to 95 sq inches from 90 sq inches, this shift gave him a strong backhand. we can see more consistency and more down the line winners from that backhand because of this radical shift. To beat the best returners you need a good serve and volley game. Stefan's advice helped roger to play more aggressively at net and so far it has been showing results. After hiring stefan in to his coaching team, roger has a positive h2h against Novak djokovic. Last year he was the only player to have a positive winning record against world number 1 from the top ten players.
Pundits said he wont win any more grandslams, Last year wimbledon final was one example which has shown that heart of a champion never stops to pump. I would like to quote the words from Novak after the match towards roger "thanks for letting me win today". May be he is fading in the heights of djokovic and Nadal, but he is not quitting. because he is not playing to prove a point, he playing because of the love towards game and that is why we always say tennis is not perfect with out federer.
